About us
TRRC has been established through a Memorandum of Understanding between
the National Institute of Crop Science (NICS) of the Rural Development Administration (RDA) of Korea
and
the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)
In 2007, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) organized the first planning meeting of TRRC in Suwon, South Korea. With the participation of scientists from the 12 temperate rice-growing countries, this meeting aimed to overcome production constraints through collective research efforts. Recognizing the key issues on temperate rice improvement that must be addressed including biotic and abiotic stresses, yield potential, and grain quality and nutrition, the consortium approach was identified as the best possible solution to remove such constraints.
Consequently, the TRRC, with support from national and international institutions, was formally organized to collaborate in research, training, and technology-generation activities, designed to meet mutually agreed-upon objectives. Since its establishment, it has maximized its networks to connect scientists from partner institutions with diverse expertise to form multidisciplinary teams and share resources.
Specifically, the consortium aims to:
Support research initiatives and strengthen the partnership;
Identify and prioritize concerns of temperate rice research in temperate environments and high-altitude areas in the tropics;
Provide logistical support and coordinate National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems (NARES)-IRRI research collaboration; and
Promote resource sharing and information exchange among partners
